Gaming Corner

It’s been a bit of a slow week for gaming overall. One of the few outstanding anniversaries I managed to find for this week was the original North America release of Pokémon Red and Blue, having been released Sept. 28, 1998. This, of course, started the landmark series that everyone has come to love, and recently celebrated 20 years of existence back in June.

For new releases, we have “FIFA 17” for the yearly sports fans, released on Sept. 27. There are plenty of copies available right now at GameStop so you shouldn’t be too pressed to grab your copy.

The latest basketball game has also been released, “2K17,” as well as “Madden 17.” Editions of the games start at $59.99.

If you feel like you have too much money in your pocket, though, and wish to try one of the latest possible failures of SEGA, the 3DS game “Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice” just released on Tuesday. The game currently costs $39.99.

Though there is greatness coming up, as the 2016 League of Legends World Championships are about to begin. The Group Stage, which runs off of Round Robin rules, will run from Thursday to October 9th, when the two final teams of each group will advance to the Knockout Stage. Teams will be knocked out if they lose one game, being best out of one.

The Knockout Stage will then begin October 13-29, when the top two teams of the four groups will clash in bracket stages. It will be best out of five, instead of the sudden death of Group Stage.

There are three American teams: Counter Logic Gaming (Group A), Cloud9 (Group B), and Team SoloMid (Group D). We will be reporting on the scoring as the teams face off.

The first match will play off between Europe’s G2 Esports against America’s Counter Logic Gaming, starting Thursday, at 6:30 p.m.

This week’s game of the week is “Resident Evil 4.” It is considered a landmark game to breathe life into third-person shooting, and as it has been released again on PS4 and Xbox One, there is all the more reason to give it a shot. Be warned: the game is 11 years old. The controls speak volumes of that.
