President Rames’ husband shows community support

An integral figure concerning the growth and future success of Wayne has close ties to Wayne State College.

Senior Project Manager at McLaury Engineering, Stephen Rames, is the husband of Wayne State President Marysz Rames. Following the news of the upcoming inauguration of his spouse and leaving his home of 25 years in South Dakota, Rames began looking in the Northeast Nebraska area for cities poised for civil growth and found Wayne to be a perfect fit.

Born and raised in Colorado, Rames went on to study civil engineering at the University of Colorado, following in his father’s footsteps, and later went on to get his master’s degree at the University of South Dakota.

“My dad was a civil engineer,” Rames said. “When I first started school I went down a different path, but I seemed to have the mathematics gene and it fit my personality, so I naturally ended up back in engineering.”

Civil engineering is the professional field that encompasses the construction, design and maintenance of artificially crafted structures: bridges, roads and buildings all reside under this category.

“In the first 12 to 15 years I worked in heavy transportation: highway design, interstate design, construction and management,” he said. “In the last fifteen years I’ve been more on the consulting side, working general civil design for residential development, commercial development and municipal engineering.”

Through his career and experience, Rames decided that it was time to open an office in an area that is prepared for growth.

“Wayne is definitely ready for an engineering presence here in the community,” he said. “There have been companies in and out over the past few decades but Wayne is ready to support an engineer.”

Rames has found the right area and is ready to build a company. In the next 10 years he envisions himself with a dedicated staff and a strong engineering presence in Wayne, prepared for the next step of growth.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to come to Wayne,” Rames said. “It’s great to be a part of this.”
