The next few weeks will be filled with music, as WSC hosts multiple student recitals and other shows.

The WSC orchestra will perform a concert of both standard orchestral repertoire and contemporary pieces on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

Highlighting the show will be Nebraska soloists Kathleen Angeroth (Stanton), 13-year-old Joanna Leckband (Foster) and the theme from “Star Wars” by John Williams.

On Wednesday, April 20, the WSC Music Department presents the Black and Gold Show Choir and Mariachi Negro y Oro together in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

The show choir will perform a pop a cappella set. This will include music by artists from Tori Kelly to Elvis Presley to the Jackson Five. The show choir and Mariachi will combine for the final piece of the night, performing Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”

The WSC Madrigal Singers and the vocal studio of Dr. Sarah Farr will be in concert on Thursday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Ley Theatre.

The Madrigal Singers will perform works by Brahm, Thomas Tallis, Edward Grieg and many more.

The vocal studio will perform selections of Mozart, as well as arias, duets and trios from da Pointe operas “Cosí fan tutte,” “Don Giovanni” and “Le nozze di Figaro.”

On Saturday, April 23, five students at WSC will have their student recitals, part of their requirement for their degree.

Katie Welsh (flute) and Nate Acton (percussion) will start off the day at 1 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre with their recital.

Welsh graduated from Wahoo Public High School in 2012. Acton is from Firth and is a 2012 graduate of Norris High School. Both of these performers are pursuing a degree in K-12 Vocal/Instrumental Music Education. This performance will also feature collaborative piano talents of Philip Pfaltzgraff and also a guest appearance by WSC percussion instructor Brad Weber.

At 3 p.m., flute student Amanda Daubendiek will present a recital in Ley Theatre.

A 2011 graduate of Beatrice High School, Daubendiek is from Holmesville. She is pursuing degrees in both music performance and Spanish. Her show will also feature guest appearances by fellow student Molly Schroeder on flute and Pfaltzgraff on piano.

The final recital for the day will be performed by Brittany Pfund on flute and Marcus Knight on trombone. This recital is set for 5 p.m. in Ley Theatre.

Pfund is from Hartington and a 2012 Cedar Catholic High School graduate. She is pursuing a degree in K-12 Vocal/Instrumental Music Education. Knight is from Papillion and a 2012 graduate of Papillion-La Vista South High School.

The recital will also feature collaborative work from Pfaltzgraff.
