In choosing Wayne State College, senior Madeline McMindes may not have found her favorite sport, tennis, but she did find good friends and teachers.

McMindes is a criminal justice major with a coaching minor.

“I came to Wayne State because I loved the small class size, and I wanted to go to a college that a lot of my high school classmates didn’t go to because I wanted to meet new people,” McMindes said.

She liked how WSC has small class sizes and how it is possible to know professors on an individual basis. One of her favorite things about college was meeting new people at places like her freshman dorm.

“Something unique about me is that I love to play tennis. Tennis is the best stress reliever and is so much fun to play,” McMindes said.

Sports have always been a part of her life, and that is one of the reasons she chose a coaching minor.

McMindes played both tennis and softball in high school, but does not play any sports here on campus.

However, at WSC she did attend some of the sporting events as a spectator. McMindes said that her favorite memory at college would probably be getting ready with friends then heading to a football game.

After the upcoming graduation, McMindes is looking to use her criminal justice major to help people and work at some place like Boys Town.

“Career services has helped a lot with my cover letter and the application process,” McMindes said.

She believes that Wayne State has prepared her for the future and in looking for a job, and she has enjoyed her time on campus.
