Understanding Native Americans

Joseph Lovercheck, Staff Writer

Native Americans thrived on this land long before our ancestors came to the New World.

Even though they have been here longer than us, there are many misconceptions and misunderstandings.

At 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Gardner Auditorium, four Native panelists will present their information to shed light on these common misconceptions and misunderstandings.

This event is co-sponsored by the Interfaith Action Group and the Native American Student Alliance.

There are currently four tribes that reside in Nebraska. All four will be represented in the panel: Dwight Howe, representing the Ponca Tribe; Sarah Snake, the Winnebago; Wyatt Thomas, the Santee and Pierre Merrick, the Omaha.

Nichole Parker, member of the Omaha Tribe and a former WSC student, will moderate the panel.

There will be a question-and-answer session following the presentation. Drinks and light snacks will be provided after the discussion.
