Ron Vick, Sr., a longtime Counseling Center employee of Wayne State College, died Tuesday morning after a medical emergency in his office in the Counseling Center.

Ron was hired in Aug. 1997. During his long period of employment at Wayne State, Ron taught a variety of courses, served as a licensed counselor and certified professional counselor, and provided advising and other services for international students.

Ron was the longtime advisor of the Wayne State Science Fiction and Fantasy Club, which sponsors WillyCon, an annual science fiction and fantasy fan-based convention that has been hosted on the Wayne State campus every year since 1999. Ron was, by all accounts, the heart and soul of the annual convention.

“Ron Vick, Sr. was a great man, and the father of Sci-Fi Club. His passing will impact the club as a whole, both current members and alumni. This year’s Willycon will be the most difficult, but we will do it in his honor,” Landon Norquest, Sci-Fi Club President, said.

Ron is survived by his wife, Janet; two children, Ron, Jr. and Jennifer; and seven grandchildren.
