Artist Merrill Peterson to present ‘Keen Observations 2’

Got art? The Wayne State College Department of Art & Design will present visiting artist Merrill Peterson in an exhibit titled “Keen Observations 2” from Sept. 30 through Oct. 28 in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery.

An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery, located on the second floor of the Peterson Fine Arts Building.

This reception is free and open to the public.

An artist’s talk featuring Peterson will also be held on Sept. 30 in Gardner Auditorium from 3:45-4:15 p.m.

Peterson was born in Iowa, but lived in Lincoln, Neb. for the majority of his life.

He was the chair of the Art Department at Lincoln High School and later went on to chair the Graphic Design Program at Southeast Community College.

Peterson has shown his “Keen Observations 2” at Modern Arts Midtown in Omaha and now his exhibitions will be open to the public at WSC.

Peterson finds magic in painting and creating art.

“What is possible on a two-dimensional surface offers possibilities beyond the reality of physical three-dimensional space,” Peterson said. “The fiction of painting provides opportunity for surprise and magic.”

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and all shows end at noon on the closing day.
