Over the weekend, the Wayne State College women’s soccer team played against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 17, and the Sioux Falls Cougars on Sunday, Oct. 19.
The Wildcat’s record was 4-3-4, and the Mustangs were 2-9 on the season coming into their matchup.
After being on the road for the past couple of games, the Wildcats came back home to play SMSU. The Wildcats got out to an early lead in the ninth minute with senior Reagan Allen scoring the first goal.
In the second half, SMSU’s goalkeeper scored an own goal, and senior Alaina Sorensen and Abby Evers scored the last two goals.
In total, the Wildcats put up four goals in the game. They outshot SMSU 18-9, and a 10-5 ratio of shots on goal.
The final 25 minutes were played by some of the reserves, including freshman Katelyn Miller, who recorded two saves. After a big win at home, the Wildcats went back on the road to Sioux Falls.
On Sunday, the Wildcats traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to play against the Cougars. Once again, the Wildcats got off to an early lead with a 15-yard goal by freshman Molly Riggins.
Right away in the second half, Addison Van Zee scored for the Cougars to tie the game up at one a piece.
Van Zee scored again later in the second half to secure Sioux Falls with the 2-1 victory.
Sioux Falls outshot Wayne State 12-5, and a 6-2 ratio of shots on goal. The Wildcats are now 5-4-4 on the season, and Sioux Falls is 6-6-1.
The Wildcats will host their last two home games of the season this weekend. They play Northern State on Friday at 3 p.m. and Jamestown on Sunday at 1 p.m.
