Ricketts comes to town

It’s not every day the Governor of Nebraska comes to Wayne America.

Gov. Pete Ricketts stopped by Wayne Saturday to catch the WSC Rugby teams in action.

“I am friends with Coach Barner, and he has been inviting me over for a while now,” Ricketts said. “I host a tailgate party for Husker football games, so I had to find a time with an away Husker game and a home Wayne game.”

Ricketts is a big fan of rugby. He began playing while attending the University of Chicago, and when he returned to Nebraska after graduating he played for the Omaha Goats rugby club.

“I absolutely love the game of rugby, and it is so nice to see a club like this have the success they do. A big part of that is coach Barner,” Ricketts said.

Wayne community members as well as students at WSC were excited to see Ricketts. He took the time to come down from the press box during half time and between games to talk and take pictures with WSC fans.

“The support Wayne rugby has is amazing. The facilities here are great as well. This is one of the best rugby pitches I have seen for a club team,” Ricketts said.
