WSC President Marysz Rames spoke to the Wayne City Council last night about a resolution to jointly provide information technology and industrial services between the City of Wayne and Wayne State College.

The resolution seeks to expand programs in the field and have WSC serve as a career academy for local schools. Rames sees a great potential for the college and the community to grow together by hosting more events and providing more economic growth in the city.

The college would also give the city the opportunity to send employees to the college to take classes that would provide them with better knowledge of their field in order to better help the city.

“It gives us an opportunity to show our support for Wayne State,” said Mayor Ken Chamberlain.

The resolution was tabled to work out some minor changes and will be brought back at the next meeting for more discussion.

The council also approved a power purchase agreement with the Cottonwood Wind Project to supply 15 percent of the city’s power.

The land on which the new event center is being built was re-zoned from agricultural to highway commercial to allow the building of such a facility, and an agreement was reached to install a sewer line on the east side of that property.

There will be a public hearing May 2 at around 5:30 p.m. during the next meeting to discuss the proposed annexation of the event center area.
