Mary Carstens and Rakesh Yadav. Discussion turns to the serious issues facing Ethiopia as well as its history, particularly during the colonial period. The group contemplates how the country’s past affects their culture and how things are today.

Barbara Engebertsen pours guests traditional Ethiopian coffee while talking about her experiences visiting the country. She hopes to organize a trip back next year for WSC students to attend. Traditionally, the coffee is hand ground and brewed three times over an open fire. It is very strong and flavorful. Incense is burned while the coffee is being made, and that flavor seeps into the drink.
