From Cornhusker to Wildcat.

Point guard Sadie Murren will be transferring to Wayne State College after spending two years with the University of Nebraska women’s basketball team.

“She is a complete guard that handles the ball great and will work hard to get everyone involved,” head coach Chris Kielsmeier said.

Murren, a 5’8 guard from Colon, Neb., averaged almost 3 points and 1 rebound per game while appearing in 25 games as a backup for the Cornhuskers. Murren averaged 8 minutes per game and shot 47 percent from the field and 71 percent at the free throw line.

On April 15, Murren was named the 2014 Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award winner for the Nebraska women’s basketball team and an inaugural member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

“As good of a player as Sadie is, she is an even better person,” Kielsmeier said.

Murren was a standout high school player at Wahoo, earning three Class C-1 First Team All-State selections while being named honorary captain of the class C-1 All-State Team as a senior.

She averaged 18 points and 3 rebounds per game for the Warriors. Murren totaled 1,149 points, 402 assists and 255 steals while draining 166 3-pointers in her high school career.

“Sadie is a fierce competitor that wants to win at the highest level possible, and we expect her to bring a lot to our program both on and off the court,” Kielsmeier said.

Murren joins 6’1 forward/center Paige Ballinger of Pender, 5’9 shooting guard Jasmin Bretoi of Lino Lakes, Minn., 5’10 forward Kacie O’Connor from Sundance, Wyo., 6’3 center Taylor Reiner of Highlands Ranch, Colo. and 6’0 guard/forward Maggie Schulte from Wynot.

Each player signed with Wayne State during the NCAA early signing period last November.
